Born in South Africa, New Zealand international, Devon Conway made his third consecutive fifty in IPL 2022 by scoring 87 points against the Delhi Capitals here on Sunday. He missed his century but he helped his team, Chennai Super Kings after 208 runs in their first innings.
Conway played the first game of the season for CSK but was later dropped. He then took a break from the tournament for his wedding. Since returning to the playing XI, he has been in sublime form as he has managed 85 no-outs, 56 and 87 in his last three innings.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Makes My Job Easier: Devon Conway
Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad have formed a formidable partnership at the top of the command for CSK. Since Conway’s return to the side, even Gaikwad seems to have gotten his touchback as in the last 5 games he too has scored over 200 points. The right hand and left hand combination at the top seems to have worked a lot in Gaikwad’s favor.
In what has been a poor season for CSK Conway, CSK Conway’s form should give them a lot of confidence going into next year’s tournament as they would like to believe that at least their openers are sorted.
Conway in the post-game presentation said“The thought process was just to keep it simple. It was just communicating with Ruturaj. With Hussey, I just discussed the surface and which bowlers to target. I’m just happy to build this partnership with Rutu, and the way he plays, he makes it easier for me. I have to be true to myself, authentic to myself. I’m looking to play cricket shots and I just gauge where to put my foot. I have to give Credit to MS, as I tried to play the sweep last game, and he told me to look to play straight.
MS Dhoni said in the post game presentation after CSK lost their last game that batters have to be careful of the shots they play, Conway implemented it in the very next game as he played much straighter against Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.
