Highest Leverage Pitchers: James Kaprielian, Erik Fedde

James Kaprielian will face the Boston Red Sox for the second time this month, his first start being a brutal one. In 5.1 innings pitched, Kaprielian allowed four earned runs, the kicker being that he only scored one strikeout. Boston has had an effective offense for most of the season, but over the past week they have seemed to struggle, being in the last eight in wOBA, wRC+ and points scored. Kaprielian isn’t a great pitcher, as his xERA and xFIP hover above 5.00, but can he save a decent performance against a freefall attack? Sometimes if a team doesn’t swing the bat well, it doesn’t matter who’s on the mound, so that’s what we’re going to bet on tonight, because it’s a business of assumptions. He also potentially has more in the strikeouts department with over 21 starts last year and a strikeout percentage of almost 25%, while currently it is around 16%. Kaprielian will only cost you $5700 and should see around 2% ownership, so although it’s a risky game, it doesn’t sacrifice too much, making it worth sprinkling some queues with it.

Erick Fedde is tasked with trying to end the Atlanta Braves’ 13-game winning streak, which is an uphill battle. In the two weeks the streak was built, the Braves scored the most runs in baseball and led the league in HardHit%, Barrel%, and ISO while near the top of all other offensive categories. No wonder we see Fedde getting some leverage, because who in his right mind would make the Braves disappear from the way they swing the bat? Fedde is not a spectacular pitcher and is basically a body in the rotation of a bad team. His xERA and xFIP are both around 4.50 with limited production. There’s little, if anything, in Fedde’s favor coming in tonight; however, the Braves have to slow down eventually, don’t they? You’ll get Fedde with minimal ownership for a reasonably low price, so taking a shot in the dark that tonight is the night the Braves’ streak is broken might not be the worst prospect.
