CONTRIBUTED: On Friday, May 27, 2022, St. Martin’s Credit Union celebrated its 71st Annual General Meeting. This came after a two-year absence from its annual meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With all restrictions lifted, SMCU welcomed over 300 of its member-owners to Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, Cayo.

In attendance were the Belize Credit Union League and other sister credit unions. The meeting was scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m., however, due to a power outage, it was rescheduled to 5:50 p.m. During the meeting, the members listened to all the committees: credit committee, monitoring committee and board of directors. Members received an update on the Caisse Populaire’s operations over the past 2 years and the impact of the pandemic on business, in particular the loan portfolio and earnings. Also launched was Credit Union’s newest product: Online Banking, where members will be able to transact online instead of coming to the office.

Member-owners were given the opportunity to voice their concerns and praise to the Board of Directors, and a commitment to provide better and more efficient service to members was given.

Due to the impossibility of hosting the annual general meeting for 2 years, all the positions of the various committees and board of directors were to be filled, namely 5 vacant positions for the board of directors, 3 for the credit and 3 for the monitoring committee. Elections were conducted by secret ballot, in accordance with the credit union’s bylaws, and overseen by the Belize Credit Union League with the following members elected to serve:

board of directors
Chair: Dr. John Morris
Vice-Chair: Ms. Seidy Garcia
Treasurer: Mr. Carlton Mckoy
Secretary: Mr. Elmer Juarez
Pedagogical director: Ms. Nelida Sabido

Credit Committee
Mrs. Santos Tesecum
Mr. Manuel Medina
Mr. Fabio Carballo

Oversight committee
Mrs. Irma Sanchez
Mrs. Karen Perez
Ms Laura Sierra

Members also participated in a series of raffles including cash prizes, a fridge and an early bird prize money. The Annual General Meeting officially closed at 10:30 p.m.
